What are other names for this service?
Take in the waist, take in the waistband, a waist adjustment, waist in, reduce waist size, make waist tighter, make waist smaller are all common names or phrases people might say when requesting this service. They all have the same meaning and typically represent the same alterations needs.
This service is ideal if you've got new pants that are too big in the waist, or if your body shape has changed and you'd like to keep wearing a pair you already own.
How we take in a waistband
Our social enterprise partners typically take in the waist of your pants, jeans, trousers, skirt or shorts at the side seams or the centre back seam, depending on the garment construction. In some cases they may adjust the waist another way, like using back pocket darts or other garment features, if they lend themselves to easy adjustment.
Typically we can reduce the waist of your garment by up to 5cm (about one size) from the original measurement, while keeping a similar look and shape. Reducing by more than 5cm is sometimes possible, however this largely depends on the garment's construction and may take longer, so it can cost more than the standard pricing.
Our partner will assess your garment once received and choose the best approach based on its construction. If you have a preference, please leave a comment with your order.
In some cases even smaller reductions (under 5cm) may not be possible. If that happens we'll get in touch and let you know what we can do, if anything, and by how much. You'll then have the choice to proceed or take a full refund.
How much can be taken in for a waist in alteration?
Our waist in service covers reductions of up to 5cm, roughly one size. If you need more than 5cm please contact us first with details of your garment (a photo is ideal) and how much you want to adjust by. We'll let you know what's possible and what it costs.
